Citation Share (Observed) measures the observed share of your domain as a cited source in answer engines (e.g., Google AI Overviews, Copilot, Perplexity) relative to third‑party sources. It is a robust evidence layer for progress and benchmarking.

How do we measure Citation Share?

Define a query set (topics/keywords) that your domain aims to cover.
Select engines (AI Overviews, Copilot, Perplexity); define the time window.
Sample collection: open answers, record the list of sources.
Counting rule: count each unique source domain once per answer.
Metric: your domain’s share of all cited sources in the sample.

Data capture (practical, GDPR‑compliant)

Capture per record: date/time, engine, query/intent, answer URL (if any), source domains (list), comment.
